Evolution - 2024 (18”x12”x12”)
'Evolution' is a bronze sculpture of an emerging draped hand that evokes a sense of struggle, strength, and accomplishment. Envisioned as a self portrait, this piece reflects the personal struggles and triumphs of the artist through years of mental health challenges. At scale, this piece offers a new perspective of a common and accessible subject, allowing the viewer to experience the new rhythms created by the interplay between mechanical and anatomical representation of the hand. The drapery is represented with a lyrical flow that gives weight to a piece that is steeped in gravitas. The liver of sulfur patina adds to the sense of emotional and physical weight that makes 'Evolution' feel appropriate for the past, present, and future. This piece is perfect for public display and will look sensational on a plinth either indoors or outdoors. The underside of 'Evolution' is complete with brackets for easy installation. A product of the Gulf Coast, this piece was sculpted in Pensacola, Florida and poured at the Fairhope Foundry in Fairhope, Alabama.
